Catherine Fukushima is a consultant in the areas of art, culture and philanthropy. Her practice is informed by 20 years work focused on improving the ways in which arts organizations engage with their audiences. Catherine serves as a lead process faculty for the New Pathways for the Arts Initiative and The James Irvine Foundation's Arts Innovation Fund. Through her own practice, Reinterpret Consulting, Catherine works with foundations, museums and arts education organizations to develop and implement strategies to increase access the arts and culture. Clients include the New York Community Trust, the Center for Arts Education (New York), Bowdoin College Art Museum and the Wagner Free Institute of Science (Philadelphia). Prior to consulting, she was a senior program officer for the New York-based Wallace Foundation, where she was responsible advancing two initiatives of national scope: the Wallace Excellence Awards and Arts for Young People. In that role she facilitated the work of organizations as diverse as the Seattle Art Museum, The Huntington Theater (Boston), The Fleisher Art Memorial (Philadelphia), and the Arts Education Branch of the Los Angeles Unified School District. A leader in the field of museum education, Catherine held positions at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Brooklyn Museum.
