We’re delighted to announce an exciting new program for and with Alaska’s arts and cultural organizations to advance innovation and adaptive change.

New Pathways | Alaska is a new initiative developed by EmcArts, Rasmuson Foundation, the Foraker Group, and Alaska State Council on the Arts to stimulate innovation and adaptive leadership capacity in Alaska’s arts and cultural organizations.

This three-year program is supported by a generous $2 million grant from Rasmuson Foundation, $1.4 million of which will be directed towards EmcArts to support New Pathways design, facilitation work, and program-related grants.

The program integrates a wide range of learning activities and financial investments. Its components focus on celebrating and advancing organizational innovations as responses to complex challenges during times of rapid change. Arts organizations from Alaska’s diverse cultural landscape will learn about building adaptive capacity through group workshops, forums, coaching, and individual organizational facilitation.

Program design

The program will take place in two cycles over three years, with up to ten organizations selected to take part in each cycle’s cohort. The five components of the program include:

  1. A sequence of 9 virtual workshops and 3 face-to-face participant forums
  2. On-site coaching for all participating organizations, as follow-up to the workshops
  3. The opportunity for an individually facilitated “deep dive” process to incubate a specific innovation project
  4. Capital grants of up to $75,000 to support selected organizations in scaling up promising new directions
  5. A variety of online learning tools (housed on ArtsFwd.org) to capture and reinforce lessons learned, and to contribute to the national dialogue about “next practices” for the field

Applications to join the first New Pathways | Alaska cohort are now open, and due by June 2, 2014. To learn more about the program design, application, and schedule, visit this page.
